EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT

I attended college, working through my education as a Medical Officer Assistant, a photographer for Artona Studios and for my own small business, a gardener for the Vancouver Municipal Parkboard, and an English as a Second Language Teacher.  I completed my Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and Communications from Simon Fraser University, with a certificate in Liberal Arts.  I then went on to complete training in Victim Services support at the Justice Institute of British Columbia.

After graduation, I began working at 411 Seniors Centre in Downtown Vancouver, where I was the Information and Resources Coordinator.  I really liked helping the people that came to our center, and advocating for them and began looking for a career path with that in mind.

In 2000, I applied for a job as Administrative Assistant at Surrey RCMP Detachment Victim Service Unit and I fell in love with the work, challenges, the successes, and quickly moved up to Assistant Manager.  In 2006, I left City of Surrey and moved on to BC RCMP Headquarters where I have worked as a federal government public servant, as BC RCMP Volunteer Program Management Director, BC RCMP Victim Services Program Director, and BC RCMP Manager of Strategic Planning.

Experience

One of the themes throughout my career, and life has been listening to others, and advocating for them, to ensure their voices are heard, and they are not given the runaround.

Within my BC RCMP Victim Service Director role I am responsible for developing, implementing and revising policies, and overseeing projects that will impact and support RCMP members and Victim Service workers, and ultimately the victims of crime served across the province. In my role as the Manager, Strategic Planning I work to develop and implement strategic planning and related business improvement processes through the Operations Strategy Branch.  These activities support all levels of management in strategic planning and reporting on the performance of BC RCMP.

I have extensive experience working with municipal, provincial, and federal government, as well as non-governmental partners, community members, and stakeholders, on projects and policy changes.  I take all sides into consideration, including any risks and liability issues, mitigation plans, and financial impacts, prior to making a decision. I’ve been successful in moving many issues to a solution, revising and enhancing policy that impacts the province and the citizens we serve.  I have a collaborative, consultative style, and always work to find a win for as many people and partners as possible.

I have a long history of volunteerism.  Most recently, I have been involved as a Girl Guide Leader for Peninsula District, and as International Travel Advisor; and with Semiahmoo Animal League Inc. as an Animal Carer and Fundraising Gala assistant.
